Early 20th century, by Anton Konrad, and built on matching 16th-century blades. Faithfully replicating a very fine-matched pair of German rapier and sword of about 1580-1600. Iron hits beautifully chased in high relief scrolling foliage, flowers, and fruit. Fine wire-wrapped grips with turban form terminals. The blades, 41” and 12 ½” respectively, each with maker’s marks to each side of the ricasso and with deep fuller marked * PAR * CE * SIGNE * TU * VAINCRAS * (BY THIS SIGN YOU OVERCOME) on each side. Made to the very highest standard of the period craftsmen which they emulate, this very pair has been known to fool more than one accomplished expert and surely has been sold as of the period in the past.
